We were apart of this past winter storm and the temperatures are still freezing. I don’t think we have gotten above freezing in over a week. Ugh, I am definitely a warm weather girl and am dreaming of the tropics right now. I was not built for these temperatures. I all about getting a beautiful snow storm, but that’s it. After one, I’m done, and I ‘am ready the temperatures to rise.
What do I like to do when its cold outside? I’m so glad you asked. I love to sit by the fire with a hot cup of coffee and just read.
I used to be an avid reader starting in high school. I remember browsing the shelves of Barnes and Nobles and I cam across the book, “The Other Boleyn Girl,” by Philippa Gregory. It was the most beautiful cover I had ever seen. I read the synopsis; anything Tudor England is a win for me. I’ve always loved learning about King Henry VIII. I thought this book would be a winner for me. Needless to say I couldn’t put this book down. I definitely bought this book based on the cover. Reading “The Other Boleyn Girl” brought back my love for reading. I quickly read other books by Philippa Gregory.
After I started having kids, I wasn’t reading as much as I used to. When Covid hit, one of my friends told me about a book called “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah. Oh my goodness, I couldn’t put this book down. I remember I had 100 pages left to read. I told my husband not to disturb me until I finished the book. I threw all 3 of my kiddos, who were in the fun toddler years (ages 18 months, 3, and 5), I locked myself in my room. After this one book, I’ve been reading ever since and loving it.
I love the since of escape reading offers. I allows my to become apart of a different world and immerse myself in the pages. It’s like my current neighbor said (I have to say that because we’re military and about to move), reading helps us to disengage from all the craziness of the world and puts us in a alternate reality.
I kept hearing about “The Housemaid” and how great it was. I downloaded it, it’s on kindle unlimited, but it just sat in my library. I was reading other books, I just hadn’t gotten to it yet. I finally ready it, and O-M-G, from chapter 1, this book kept me on my toes. It never had a dull moment and I kept wanting to know what was going to happen yet. A definite page turner. You think you have one idea and perception of what is going on, then all of a sudden, it completely changes and your left there with your moth dropped. I don’t normally give 5 stars to the books I read, but this book was
! You will not be disappointed. I wanted to read this before I saw the movie. I always try to read the books before the movie comes out. I really believe its true when people say the book will always be better than the movie.

What’s even more exciting, “The Housemaid” is a series and apparently they’re ALL great reads. I can’t wait to get my hands on “The Housemaid Secret” and “The Housemaid is Watching”.
I am dying to know what you think of the book…..
